The color of ceramic pigments is the most important property of pigments. There are many kinds of them, which are roughly divided into red, yellow, blue, green, purple, black, gray, white and other colors. There is also a certain internal relationship between various colors. Hue is the characteristic that distinguishes colors from each other. The hue of an object is determined by the spectral composition of the light source and the ratio of wavelength radiation reflected by the surface of the object to the perception of the human eye.
The color of ceramic pigments mainly depends on the existence state of coloring ions, that is, the atomic or molecular structure of the colorant itself, and secondly depends on the preparation process and use conditions.

In the coloring of ceramic pigments, the principle of color mixing of pigments should be understood. The more types of pigments are mixed, the lower the lightness and purity, and then tend to dark gray. In daily palette work, in addition to work experience, the three primary color theorem is generally used for color allocation, and two colors are mixed to obtain an intermediate color, such as red and yellow to obtain orange.
Of course there are some special ones, such as mixing blue and yellow to get green. In another case, when two colors are complementary colors with far different color systems, the mixture obtained is black-gray, such as purple and yellow mixed, and black-gray is obtained.
For the palette work of ceramic pigments, only with a full understanding of the color development of the pigments used can we better quickly and effectively carry out palette work according to the three-primary color theorem.
